  1. American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday Credit Card. This card from American Express pays unlimited cashback on all spending at a rate of 0.5 % or 1 % depending on how much you spend. It’s the top cashback payer that doesn’t charge an annual fee. The card earns 0.5 % cashback after first 3 months (if you spend £1 to £10,000) and 1 % cashback after first 3 months with spending above £10,000. Cashback earned will be paid into your card account every year. With a representative APR of 24.5 % (variable), you will need to clear your balance every month to get the most from this card. The card comes with the regular Amex benefits, such as Global Assist service for foreign travel and discounts at selected retailers. There’s a 5 % cashback welcome bonus for new customers in the first 3 months on up to the first £2,000 in spending which is appealing if you are applying for the card with the purpose of making a major purchase
  2. The Barclaycard Rewards credit card. This card is not only free of overseas charges but, so long as you pay off your balance every month, you won’t pay interest either. This even includes withdrawing cash from at ATM in the local currency. As well as being great for overseas use, the Barclaycard Rewards card actually pays you to spend (albeit at 0.25 % which is one penny for every £4) in the form of cashback. But this card is only cost-free if you pay off your entire balance every month. If there is a balance remaining you’ll be charged a representative 22.90 % APR (variable) on it. The deal comes with some strict eligibility rules. You need to be aged at least 21 to qualify for the card, with four years’ experience handling credit under your belt and an annual income of more than £21,000
  3. The Halifax Clarity card. This card charges zero fees when you use it to make purchases or withdraw cash abroad. But it’s only truly cost-free if you pay off your balance in full. If you allow a balance to roll over from one month into the next, you’ll pay interest at a representative 19.90 % APR (variable). If you use the card to withdraw local currency whilst you’re travelling, you’ll be charged interest on that amount with immediate effect at the same 19.90 % APR (variable) – or higher if you opt to take out sterling
